Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) on the draft Belfast Agenda

Closed 20 Apr 2017

Opened 15 Dec 2016

The Belfast Agenda is Belfast’s first community plan.  This high level plan sets out a new shared vision and bold ambitions for Belfast‘s future.  It describes the quality of life outcomes we want for all residents and outlines the priorities we need to be focusing on over the next four years to achieve this.

Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA)

The EQIA report sets out how Belfast City Council and its community planning partners intend to promote equality of opportunity through the implementation of the Belfast Agenda over the period 2017-2021 (in accordance with Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998).

This EQIA has been conducted at a strategic level - it assesses the Belfast Agenda in a holistic way and does not include details of the equality impacts of every individual element within the community plan.  Equality screening will be carried out on these as we move forward with the implementation of the plan.  The issues identified in this EQIA will act as a guide to the community planning partners when they are developing individual projects and programmes under the Belfast Agenda.

Why we are consulting

We are seeking feedback on the Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA).  This will help us to better understand the different needs within our communities and how we can work to improve the equality and wellbeing of all people.  This information will be used to further inform the development of the Belfast Agenda.

We welcome comments from any organisation or individual with an interest in the proposals.

You can find out more about the Belfast Agenda, and access all relevant documents, on the Council’s website at: www.belfastcity.gov.uk/belfastagenda

Alternatively all consultation documents can be made available in hard copy, email and alternative formats on request to communityplanning@belfastcity.gov.uk

You can provide feedback using our online questionnaire, via the link below, until Thursday 20 April 2017.

What happens next

This consultation is now closed.

The EQIA report will be revised to take account of all comments received from consultees. The EQIA report, together with a full report of the consultation process, will then be submitted to the council and its community planning partners to assist them to make final decisions on the Belfast Agenda.  The decisions made will be incorporated into a final EQIA report which will be made available through the council’s website.
