Draft Car Parking Strategy and Action Plan

Closed 21 Nov 2016

Opened 30 Aug 2016

Our City Centre Regeneration and Investment Strategy, published in September 2015, identified car parking as a major issue for Belfast city centre and recommended that we work with the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) to develop and implement a strategy for car parking for Belfast.

Last year we commissioned consultants to help us develop a car parking strategy and action plan for Belfast. Our draft vision for this strategy is to offer “sufficient, high quality and appropriately located parking which supports economic development and regeneration within the city by balancing the requirements of residents, businesses, commuters and visitors”

In developing this draft strategy we have already engaged with key stakeholders including local communities, disability groups and business and retail groups.

We would now like to hear your views on the draft strategy and recommended actions.

Why we are consulting

Parking is an important aspect of modern day life and is important for accessibility and the economic growth of cities.

We want to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to comment on our parking strategy so that we can ensure that it is fit for purpose and meets the many needs of our city and those who live here and visit.

It should be noted that many of the draft strategy recommendations and actions will require agreement from key stakeholders and in particular DfI.

The strategy document is available, on request, in alternative formats - Braille, audio, large print, easy read. The council will also consider requests to produce it in other languages. If you require the strategy or consultation document in these or other formats please contact us by:
